Taste This: Bahamas & Florida

I had a wonderful time in the Bahamas! After I returned all tanned and relaxed, I couldn’t get out of vacation mode. I kept lying around waiting for someone to take my drink order. I realized the party was over when my bedroom didn’t have a turndown service. So, back to the real world.
Here are some food highs and lows of my trip. So much food. So little time.
Freeport – Harbour Moon. I love, love, love conch. It’s what shrimp was to Bubba Gump! I could eat that sweet, delicate meat every day. Harbour Moon had the bare essentials – kitchen, a cook (Ella), a chalkboard with menu items, a few tables, a cash register and that’s about it. This place was a diamond in the rough! I had the most amazing fresh conch. I could hear Ella cracking the shell open as she prepared it. I also had some baked chicken, potato salad, and rice and peas that were absolutely delicious. Generous portions/cheap eats. Yay!!
Nassau – Athena Cafe & Bar. I read and heard so many great things about this place. I really like Greek food and couldn’t wait to try it. The restaurant is considered fine dining but unfortunately the food was disappointing. The lamb was dry and bland. The Tzatziki sauce was flat. Two lunch gyros with fries, 1 bottled water, and a lemonade set us back about $41. Overpriced/Not good. Booooo!!!
Ft. Lauderdale – Cabo Blanco. Close to our hotel was a small Peruvian Cuban restaurant called Cabo Blanco It’s located in a shopping center and very casual. It’s always a good sign if you’re the only tourists in the restaurant. The menu seemed endless and the lunch specials were $7.99. The calamari appetizer was bigger than my head, free of that fishy taste, and tender. The black beans were rich in flavor and the rice was ultra fluffy. The bistec was moist and the sweet, crunchy breading was just perfect. It was waaaay too much food but I couldn’t stop. What did MJ say? Don’t stop till you get enough! Generous portions/cheap eats. Yay!!
It was fun and I can’t wait to do it again. I’m writing this on an empty stomach and at the risk of salivating on and ruining my keyboard – I’ve gotta go. Until next time…
